South-African
born artist Gretta Louw grew up in Australia, since
living in Japan and New Zealand before settling
in Berlin, where she has lived and worked since
2007. Her art practice incorporates performance
elements in installations of photography and projections,
as well as drawing, and focuses on the Unconscious
and other aspects of human psychology. Recent photographic
installations have referenced early twentieth century
psychoanalysts, particularly Hermann Rorschach,
who developed the widely used and highly influential
Rorschach Inkblot Test of personality and psychological
functioning.
The work takes established psychological principles
and tests them within a fine art context, using
the art practice as a means of psychological study.
